Hurricane Rita Deployment Update

We are anticipating the Team's arrival between 7:00 and 9:00 PM this evening.

The Team has been de-mobilized. They are headed to Amarillo, TX where they will
spend the night. Their anticipated arrival in Las Vegas is Thursday night
around 11:00 PM.

The Team was not involved in any exotic rescues, although they were involved in
reconnaissance missions via helicopter. They lent support to local authorities
in providing food and water to several area residents.

They endured stifling heat, overcrowded sleeping arrangements, cold,
low-pressure showers, "helicopter" size mosquitos, torrential rainfall, and
even spotted a tornado. All and all their deployment was routine.

Nevada Task Force One members were
activated for deployment to assist with Hurricane Rita on September 20, only
three days after they arrived from New Orleans where they had participated in a
rescue mission after Hurricane Katrina.
The team of 28 specialists, six drivers and four dogs left for San Antonio,
Texas on Wednesday, September 21, just before 2:00 PM and arrived at their
destination late afternoon the following day.
The team was staged at the Reliant Center in Houston until Saturday, September
24. They were dispatched on Saturday evening to a staging area near Lake
Charles, Louisiana where they arrived at 11 PM local time.
The team spent Sunday morning surveying two communities around Lake Charles. On
Sunday afternoon, two six-man teams were sent by helicopter to areas around the
town of Cameron to recon & search.
The team spent the night in the ballroom of a hotel/casino ballroom near Lake
Charles. Due to water shortages, there were only two showers for over 100
people. The lines were quite long to use the unheated, low pressure water.
On Monday, around 8 AM they went to the Chennault air field for continued recon
and search. Team spirits are high and the members are eager to help as much as
they can.
